Install SpeedTest Pro WordPress Plugin – Quick Setup Guide

SpeedTest Pro takes about 5 minutes to set up. No coding required. Let’s get you up and running.

What You’ll Need

Before you start, make sure you have:

  • A WordPress website (version 6.2 or higher)
  • Admin access to your WordPress dashboard
  • About 5 minutes of your time

That’s it. No special server requirements or PHP extensions to worry about.

Installing the Plugin

You have two options here. Pick whichever feels more comfortable.

Option A: Install from WordPress Dashboard

This is the easiest method if SpeedTest Pro is available in the WordPress plugin directory.

  1. Log into your WordPress admin panel. That’s usually yourdomain.com/wp-admin.
  2. Go to Plugins > Add New. You’ll find this in the left sidebar.
  3. Search for SpeedTest Pro. Type it in the search box in the top right corner.
  4. Click Install Now. It’s the blue button next to the plugin name.
  5. Wait for the installation. Takes about 10-30 seconds depending on your server.
  6. Click Activate. The button changes from Install to Activate once it’s done.

Done. You should now see SpeedTest Pro in your admin sidebar.

Option B: Upload the Plugin Manually

Use this method if you downloaded the plugin as a ZIP file.

  1. Download the SpeedTest Pro ZIP file. Save it somewhere you can find it.
  2. Log into your WordPress admin panel.
  3. Go to Plugins > Add New.
  4. Click Upload Plugin. It’s at the top of the page, next to the title.
  5. Choose the ZIP file. Click the Choose File button and find your download.
  6. Click Install Now.
  7. Click Activate Plugin. This appears after installation completes.

You’re all set.

First-Time Setup

Once activated, SpeedTest Pro needs a bit of configuration. Here’s what to do:

Find the Plugin

  1. Look in your WordPress sidebar. You’ll see a new menu item called Speedtest Pro.
  2. Click on it. This opens the main dashboard.

Run the Setup Wizard

The first time you open SpeedTest Pro, you’ll see a setup wizard. It walks you through:

  • Selecting your country – This helps with accurate latency testing.
  • Choosing a GCP region – Pick the one closest to where most of your visitors are.
  • Selecting your hosting provider – Helps compare your performance to similar setups.

Quick tip: If you’re not sure which GCP region to pick, choose the one nearest to your target audience, not your physical location.

Configure Your Settings

After the wizard, head to Settings to add your API keys. You’ll need:

  • Google PageSpeed API Key – For page speed testing
  • UptimeRobot API Key – For uptime monitoring

Don’t have these yet? No problem. Check out our guides:

Verify Everything Works

Let’s make sure the installation went smoothly.

  1. Go to Speedtest Pro > Dashboard. This is your home base.
  2. Check for any error messages. If you see red notices, read them carefully.
  3. Run a quick test. Try the Server Performance test to verify things are working.

If you see results, congratulations. SpeedTest Pro is ready to use.

Common Installation Issues

Plugin Won’t Activate

This usually means a PHP version mismatch. SpeedTest Pro needs PHP 7.4 or higher. Check with your host if you’re unsure what version you’re running.

Missing Menu Item

Try these steps:

  1. Clear your browser cache
  2. Log out and log back in
  3. Deactivate and reactivate the plugin

Error Messages After Activation

Most errors at this stage relate to missing API keys. These are warnings, not problems. The plugin works fine for basic features without API keys.

What’s Next?

Now that SpeedTest Pro is installed, here’s what to do:

  1. Get your API keys – This unlocks all the features
  2. Run your first speed test – See where your site stands
  3. Explore the dashboard – Get familiar with the layout
